The GTA 6 Extended Look drove over 100,000 new Netflix sign-ups in the US during a six-hour exclusive window.

Grand Theft Auto VI does not launch until November, and it is already moving subscription numbers. According to Ampere Analysis data reported by Infobae, more than 100,000 people in the United States signed up for Netflix during the six-hour exclusive window of the GTA 6 Extended Look.

The figure makes Rockstar's campaign one of the biggest subscriber drivers for the platform in 2026, weeks before the game even reaches stores.

A game preview competing with series and sports

Ampere Analysis placed the Extended Look third among Netflix events with the highest subscriber acquisition capacity in the US this year. Only the final season of Stranger Things and the Ronda Rousey vs Gina Carano MMA fight ranked higher. A video game preview sitting next to two of the service's biggest mainstream events is a first for the industry.

The report added a second telling metric: more than 5% of US users who had not watched Netflix in the previous 30 days returned specifically for the Extended Look. That reactivation rate beat every other piece of content on the platform during the same period.

    Why both companies win

For Netflix, the deal brought new contracts and recovered lapsed viewers. For Rockstar, the special put GTA 6 in front of people who do not follow gaming news at all, an audience that trailers on YouTube rarely reach. As Ampere's Louise Wooldridge noted, the agreement also lets Netflix dispute the gaming conversation that usually concentrates on YouTube.

For the games industry, the takeaway is bigger than one record: launch marketing now behaves like a streaming premiere. Exclusive content windows, platform partnerships and reactivation metrics are becoming part of the playbook for major releases.

    What the 26-minute special showed

The Extended Look presented the story, mechanics and open world of Grand Theft Auto VI. Jason and Lucia appear as a criminal couple, and players can control them separately and switch between both in real time, including during specific action sequences. The special also showed a renewed Vice City with references to Miami and its surroundings.

On gameplay, Rockstar showed a shooting system that draws from Max Payne 3 and the weapon weight of Red Dead Redemption 2. Carrying a weapon in sight will trigger reactions from non-playable characters, who may flee, show fear or alert the police. Side activities include races, fights, exercise and food decisions.

    Release date and price

Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with a single-player campaign. The standard edition will cost $79.99 in the United States. Pre-orders made before November 20 include one month of GTA+ and the exclusive digital Vintage Vice City pack.

A game that has not launched yet is already the third biggest subscription event of the year for the world's largest streaming platform. The line between game marketing and entertainment marketing no longer exists.
